The experts collaborating in the MACRAMÉ Project presented at the Final Dissemination Event on the 6th May 2026 the key results and outcomes gained throughout the 3.5 years.
The virtual event kicked-off by a presentation by Steffi Friedrichs from AcumenIST and by Klaus-Michael Weltring from BioMS introducing the objectives and context of the MACRAMÉ Project. The sampling and the subsequent identification, characterisation and quantification of Advanced Materials are key corner stones towards an advanced assessment of Advanced Materials. The methods established and demonstrated within MACRAMÉ and the lessons learned were presented by Martin Wiemann (IBE) and Maike Stange (BAuA). The event continued with a concise overview of adaptions of existing standards and guidances and the development of new methods and new approach methodologies (NAMs) for the Hazard Characterisation of Advanced Materials in complex matrices towards environmental safety and human health. Presentations were given by Alberto Katsumiti (GAIKER), Iseult Lynch (UoB), Tina Bürki (EMPA), Aline Chary (LIST), and Rob Vandebriel (RIVM).
After the lunch break, the new movie explaining the key aim and the main outcomes of MACRAMÉ was shown. Afterwards, the new developments towards risk assessment established in MACRAMÉ were presented by Jimeng Wu (EMPA and Luis Mauricio Ortiz-Galvez (EMPA). In the next session the data connections and the translation of the results towards standards and OECD documents were presented by Thomas Exner (7P9) and Eric Blecker (RIVM) and Elisabeth Heunisch (BAuA), respectively. The event was concluded by a final wrap up by Steffi Friedrichs (AcumenIST).
The virtual event provided a great opportunity to learn about the MACRAMÉ key outcomes and results and to take home the key aspects of the legacy of MACRAMÉ and bring it forward towards further use and development by the different stakeholder communities. The experts presented and discussed with the audience and therewith were able to open up ways forwards towards the up-take of the MACRAMÉ legacy.
