Join us at the HaDEA Showcase Event

On Monday, 19. January 2026, the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) will be holding the second edition of the HaDEA Showcase Event, we will highlight EU-funded projects and synergies from across HaDEA’s portfolio, in the context of key EU policy initiatives; the Competitiveness Compass and the EU Preparedness Union Strategy.

The full agenda is available here.

Dr Steffi Friedrichs, from the MACRAMÉ Coordinator AcumenIST, has been invited to deliver a testimonial speech, on the topic of HaDEA’s successful contribution the high-level challenges through the funding of a broad portefolio of projects.

Join us in Brussels or online to find out more about AcumenIST’s underlying principle of shared responsibility that supports its collaborations between academic, regulatory and industrial (both large and small) partners, and that ultimately enabled the small concept consultancy to spin a strategic red line through successive rounds of HaDEA-funded projects: from the initial R&I Strategy of the MACRAMÉ Project (call topic ID: HORIZON-CL4-2022-DIGITAL-EMERGING-01-35), to the three complementary sibling projects CHIASMA (HORIZON-CL4-2023-RESILIENCE-01-21), INSIGHT (HORIZON-CL4-2023-RESILIENCE-01-22), and PINK (HORIZON-CL4-2023-RESILIENCE-01-23).

  • The 2022 MACRAMÉ Project is built on >15 years of nanomaterials safety research (funded by the European Commission and conducted to support European and international policy harmonisation and standardisation requirements (e.g. CEN, ISO, OECD, VAMAS); the project consortium deliberately left the nano-label behind and moved on to apply its nanomaterials expertise to advanced and innovative materials (incl. graphene).
  • The 2023 projects (CHIASMA, INSIGHT, PINK = ChIPs) were deliberately proposed to be complementary to each other (i.e. a group of researchers agreed, who would coordinate which one), to build on the 2022 MACRAMÉ Project (i.e. the material-focus on graphene is picked up in the relevant case-studies and use-cases). By doing so, the small group of researchers that is involved in all four projects is able to adhere to the Commission’s and HaDEA’s plan of successive projects to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness and resilience through step-wise innovation.
  • The four projects aim to innovate both the products and the processes at multiple steps of the value chains of its materials/chemicals; all project consist of a mixture of solid TRL-advancements (i.e. R&I on successive advancement), and exploratory elements (i.e. breakthrough research) through both digital and physical innovations.
  • By focussing on the requirements for market approval (i.e. the ultimate last step to obtain the economic return on any material/chemical innovation) at early value-chain stages (i.e. the underlying principle of the Safe and Sustainable by Design concept), the four projects are connecting academia, policy-makers/regulators and industry in focussed collaborative projects of shared responsibility. The collaborations with regulators brings clarity to the participating industries, whilst the collaboration with industries (both large and small), enables the policy-makers to keep up-to-date with state-of-the-art developments and requirements.
  • The projects’ direct impacts are safer and more sustainable processes and products, while the projects’ indirect (i.e. pathways to wider) impacts encompass the enhanced processes and services (i.e. digitalisation of the R&I process steps, Materials-as-a-Service), and the improved health of citizens and the environment in Europe.
  • By working towards bringing entire value chains back into Europe (and even better: making them circular within Europe), the projects strengthen Europe’s resilience, and the health and quality of life of Europe’s citizens (and their environment), whilst establishing the ‘high quality’, ‘safety’, and ‘sustainability’ of products and processes as Europe’s new mark of competitivity.
